Found A Bird?

I found a pigeon and it isn’t contained!
By staying patient and gentle, you can catch a pigeon needing rescue.
There are several ways to secure a pigeon, all of which work better or worse depending on the situation. A good reference to follow is the image on the left: set out a cage/carrier for the pigeon to walk into. This can be applied to a lot of situations and is good for birds who are a bit shy. It is better to do it when the bird is hungry so they are more motivated to go in the cage.
Alternatively, if a bird is looking unwell/hurt and are not active, simply placing a towel/shirt and picking them up can be very effective. Gently throw it over the bird, bundle them up in it, and bring them to a safe place indoors.
Whether you have other birds at home or cats and dogs, it is best to keep the bird in a separate room to keep your rescue friend as well as resident pets safe! For rescuers with very little space to work with, a bathroom is a perfect option: quiet and out of the way. For temporary containment, anything is fine: a carrier covered in a towel, an Amazon box, even an overturned laundry basket.
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE A PIGEON NEEDING RESCUE OUTSIDE, AS THEY ARE AT RISK OF PREDATION!
